School Board members are charged with balancing their communities with and linking to the schools which serve that community. It is a large responsibility filled with challenges and opportunities. The Montana Safe Schools Center honors you for your willingness to assume this huge responsibility and commitment. We commit to you that we will help you meet the challenges and satisfy your commitment to your communities.

You know that schools are the safest place for young people.  However, despite the decreases in many types of school violence, acts of targeted school violence and school emergencies remain a concern for parents, school staff, you and your fellow board members and the community as a whole.

Some like to believe that Montana schools are immune from the emergencies that plague other parts of the country; unfortunately that is not the case. Within the past decade, our schools have dealt with school shootings, fatal bus accidents, suicides, hazardous chemical spills, infectious disease outbreaks and other emergencies.

Many of these emergencies can be prevented; those that cannot can be mitigated lessening their impact on schools and the people in them. Careful assessment of risks and creating appropriate policies and training can go a long ways toward changing an emergency situation into an event with minimal impact.

Here are some of the ways the Montana Safe Schools Center can help you make your district safer and healthier.

1) School Safety
2) Community Development
3) Community Partner Development
4) Needs assessment and data analysis
5) Grant writing and partner development
